The Wellness and Recovery Academy
Mental Health Management & Substance Use Recovery
Interim’s Wellness & Recovery Academy Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)is a trauma informed program that supports adults with managing their mental health and substance use symptoms. Participants receive at least four hours of treatment per day. The day treatment program is an effective alternative to residential treatment and a great option for those at all stages of recovery from a substance use disorder. Participants receive intensive therapeutic support while continuing to live at home and remain connected to their communities.

Frequently Asked Questions?
An Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) provides structured mental health treatment several days per week while allowing individuals to continue living at home. IOP offers more support than traditional outpatient therapy and is designed for individuals who need ongoing treatment, skill development, and recovery support without requiring residential care.
The Academy IOP may be appropriate for adults experiencing serious mental health challenges, co-occurring substance use concerns, or difficulties maintaining stability in the community. Many participants enter IOP after completing residential treatment, a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), or when outpatient therapy alone is not providing enough support.
Both programs provide structured treatment while allowing individuals to live at home. PHP is generally a higher level of care that includes more treatment hours and clinical support each week. IOP offers greater flexibility while still providing intensive therapeutic services and recovery-focused support.
Dual recovery refers to addressing both mental health and substance use challenges at the same time. Many individuals experience co-occurring conditions, and treating both together can support stronger, more sustainable recovery outcomes.
Participants engage in a variety of evidence-based services, including group therapy, recovery education, skills development, mindfulness practices, wellness planning, relapse prevention, community integration activities, and individualized treatment planning. Services may incorporate approaches such as CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing, WRAP, Seeking Safety, and Harm Reduction.
Many commercial insurance plans cover Intensive Outpatient Program services when they are medically necessary. Interim works with numerous insurance providers, including Anthem Blue Cross, Blue Shield of California, Aetna, Kaiser Permanente, Optum, CCAH and others. Coverage and authorization requirements vary by plan.
